Van Nuys High School Cheer Demonstration Video
Here is a video demonstrating stunting and tumbling skills for cheer. These skills are learned in the summer during cheer practice. At the end of the video, I added a competition routine to see how skills look like when they are put together.

Field Experience- Assignment 3A
During my field experience, I decided to teach gymnastics. I believe that in order to progress in gymnastics, it is crucial that students first learn basic skills. For the purpose of this assignment, I taught a forward roll. A forward roll is a basic gymnastic skill that consists of tucking your chin to your chest and rolling forward smoothly on the floor. I began by demonstrating a video (Gymnastics/Forward Roll) that informed and demonstrated students step by step of how to perform a safe forward roll. I also demonstrated drills for warm up and proper stretches. After, I used the Think-Pair-Share method for pre-assessment. For post-assessment, I had students explain to me how to perform a forward roll and then demonstrate it for a grade. After demonstration, I gave students feedback and a grade. Three points demonstrated mastery, two points proficient, and one point novice. After feedback, If the students scored one point then they had the opportunity to fix their forward rolls and demonstrate it to me once again. For the rest of the class, they were able to move on to the next skill.
I believe that demonstrating the YouTube video on forward rolls helped students see how a forward roll looks like. When students are able to visualize how a skill looks like before they try it, then they get motivated to do it. I also felt that it was important for students to explain to me how to roll before they demonsrtrated the roll. When students explained how a roll is done then I knew whether or not they were ready to demonstrate. Once students demonstrated the roll I was able to check for understanding, corrected them, and gave them feedback. After, students practiced and corrected what was instructed during feedback and most were able to move on to the next skill.

Assignment 2B- Gymnastics (Forward Roll)
For the first lesson, I am teaching my high school students how to perform a forward roll. Therefore, I tested my pre-assessment and warm-up activity with my 12 year old gymnastics students from Pacific Community Center. First, I demonstrated a video from TeacherTube called Gymnastics/Forward Roll. After, I demonstrated drills such as straight jumps, long jumps, bear hops, and toe taps. These drills are essential to get the proper warm-up to perform any tumbling skill. Last, I had students pair up with a partner and used the Think-Pair-Share method. Students discussed the drills they learned from the demonstration and the video. After 5 minutes, I asked them to share with the class of what they learned about the drills and the video. Students were able to share and discuss the proper technique they learned. After, they shared with the class, they tried out the drills and forward roll. It was a success, however, some students needed assistance by using equipment to help them roll.
In conclusion, I learned that demonstrating the video and skills helped students learn what they need to know. Also, it was a great idea to pair students up and have them discuss the forward roll. After, students shared their discussions with the class, I was able to see what information students retained and reteach a skill. In any physical activity, it is important that students know the proper technique and safely perform any skill. I believe that teaching the class a forward roll was a success due to the pre-assessment activities.

As a current coach, I have developed a passion for physical education through competitive cheerleading. Competitive cheer is an intense physical activity that includes stunts, tumbling, dance, cheers, and jumps. It also gives students the opportunity to learn social skill, discipline, and responsibilities! To the right, I have shared a little about my background. Below I have shared two videos and pictures of what I do at Van Nuys High School. Enjoy!

Teaching and Learning Styles Test
According to the teaching and learning styles test, I am fairly well balanced in the two dimensions of the scale. My balance of understanding my students and the subject would be beneficial in the sense that I can adapt to a situation easier. I think that the most important tool in teaching is getting to know your students, their abilities and their learning needs. Also, as a substitute teacher or full-time teacher, we need to be well prepared and motivated to teach and learn other subjects. I believe that when there is a balance between learning and teaching it is beneficial for both the teacher and the student to learn. With that said, it is not a bad idea to open to new ideas for teaching to promote learning.
